A New Year Update

Since it's a new year, I wanted to do a little update on my kiddos for the sake of record keeping! A few weeks ago, we did a little questionnaire at family home evening, so some of my info. is straight from those, just in case they get lost amongst our chaos!
Benson
age:
1
favorite food:
bananas, milk, cinnamon bread--possibly allergic to peanuts
favorite activity: household destruction
2012 goal: walking

Benson is our most loved mess maker. He is constantly in the pantry dumping anything and everything he can get his hands on. He has figured out how to get the lids off of the flour and oatmeal buckets and dumps them out on a daily basis. He is also a little Houdini. We have a baby gate and a baby "cage" blocking the stairs and he can get past BOTH of them. It's a little out of control. He is a mama's boy and I love it. He gives super squishy hugs, and plants slobbery wet kisses on my face daily. I taught him how to do "high 5s" a while back, but over New Year's my sister Megan taught him to "head butt". That is now is most favorite form of affection. He also has TERRIBLE excema. It's a daily battle, but the poor little guy endures his multiple daily vasoline treatments with ease. And as of last night--HE IS WALKING!!! We sure love this mess!

Addie
age:
4
color:
pink
food: spaghetti
favorite activity: playing games
favorite book: anything about princesses or ponies
hardest thing about 2011: getting tonsils out
favorite memory of 2011:
camping in Beaver at "Justin Beiber camp"
things loved most in 2011:
mom & dad, Seaworld
goals for 2012:
learn to read, ride bike without training wheels, be a good kindergartner
catch phrases of 2011:
"awkward" and "Roll Tide"

Addie is my little spitfire. She has an opinion about ABSOLUTELY everything, and her way is pretty much right. All. The. Time. She also is a healthy dose of cute comic relief. She has some great one-liners and I need to be much better about writing them down. The other day someone asked her where she got her dimples, and without batting an eye she replied, "Jesus." She loves to be with people and will talk the ear off of ANYBODY who will listen. She loves to be constantly entertained and loves to play with friends. She also loves to help cook and she LOVES family home evening. She LOVES Benson, and most of the time he loves her back. We are still trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb--it is a serious daily struggle. She says the cutest prayers--every day she blesses her cousin Caden, and Trevor and Roxanne's baby--neither of whom she has met, she is thankful that her mom and dad got married, and she is thankful that her mom and dad got married, and then a random assortment of thanks that usually include Benson for being cute, Dad for liking BYU, etc. It's very cute and very entertaining.
She and I made a snowman last week for the 1st time all winter. She wanted to make our whole family, but I got too cold after we made the 2 of us. I don't own snow pants and wet jeans were bearable for only so long!

Spencer
age:
8
favorite color:
blue
favorite food:
pizza
favorite activity:
football
favorite book:
Harry Potter
greatest lesson of 2011:
to not put marshmellows in your back pockets
favorite memory and things he loved most about 2011:
football
biggest goal of 2012:
to go to a pro football game (this one might be tricky:), and write in his journal everyday (he is super dedicated!)

Spencer, like Addie, keeps us entertained. He LOVES to make up dance moves and make people laugh! He is beyond slightly obsessed with Harry Potter and football. His old 1st grade teacher gave him a football at school the other day and it made his day! He loves to play the wii, and looks forward to the weekends since that is the only time he is allowed to play it! He is doing great in school--his teacher called him a "math wiz" at parent teacher conferences. He loves scouts, and is only 1 requirement short of earning his wolf badge. He is also doing well with piano lessons. One thing I love about Spencer is that he is confident and willing to try things. Last weekend we made a duct tape tie, and he wore it to church with pride. He loves playing with Benson, and is a great big brother. He is also our most faithful "job do-er". Each of our kids has a list of jobs, and he does his diligently every morning!!

Kennedy
age: 10 1/2
favorite color:
any shade of blue
favorite food:
Italian
favorite activity:
duct tape projects/crafts
favorite book:
Series of Unfortunate Events
favorite 2011 memories:
Seaworld and the beach
2012 goals:
grow beans on a vine in the garden and finish the Book of Mormon

Over the last few months I feel like Kennedy has really grown up. All of a sudden she is no longer a "little" kid. She always has a busy social agenda and she is involved in choir and Hope of America at School. She is doing great with piano. She loves to make stuff out of duct tape--she has made roses, rings, hats, etc, do manicures with her friends--we even figured out how to "tie dye" nails, she loves to come to YW with me, and is extremely helpful with Benson. We went to her parent teacher conference and she is doing great is school--so that's is always fun to hear.

Kennedy has been super excited about the science fair. She has been talking about it since NOVEMBER!!! She and 2 of her good friends, Carsyn and Belle, decided to do a project together. Carsyn's grandpa helped them build a model--we forgot to take a picture of the completed project--and then the girls spent hours--literally--working on their poster. They were really excited about the possibility of going to district. I tried to be the "practical voice" and tell them that there were a lot of kids who were doing a lot of good projects, and that they did their best so they could feel good about that, etc., etc., But yesterday not only did they find out they DID make it to district, but they got THIRD PLACE out of the whole school. Their hard work paid off, and I am grateful for this confidence booster for Kennedy!
Chris and I have goals too, I am pretty sure nobody wants to hear them--be better parents, be healthier, be better with our finances, blah, blah, blah.... Our big one is finishing our basement--let's hope this one can come to fruition!!
