The Pride of Provo

Those of you who have ever lived in the south might know that, here in Alabama, football is a religious experience. Babies learn to say "Roll tide" and "War Eagle" before they learn their own name. Nick Saban and Tommy Tuberville are names mentioned on a daily basis and not knowing them is sinning!! Local grocery stores ask you at the checkout if you would like team shirts. Auburn and Alabama flags fly from every house. My personal favorite is a flag with both teams that says "House Divided."--and honestly there is probably some marital strain that comes along with that!! When people find out you are new to the area their first question is not usually "How do you like Alabama," but "Who do you cheer for, Auburn or Alabama" and since we don't go for either we are definitely on the outs!! I about busted a gut when Kennedy came home the first week of school and told us they asked which of the 2 she cheered for, and told us she picked Alabama because she was born here--she had a guilty look on her face like she had done something wrong--seriously, so funny! So anyways, we have conformed to the football craze, but not for those teams!! We ordered a BYU flag that we proudly display outside and for Halloween we decided to show our alumni pride!! Last night we had our ward trunk-or-treat carnival and Kennedy was a cheerleader, Spencer was a football player, Addie was our cougar mascot (that wore a cheerleading outfit also, because Kennedy hates dressing up and would only dress up if Addie was the same thing!) and Chris and I were fans!! We carved a "Y" pumpkin for our car, and played the fight song in the background. We were so jealous because someone was passing out taffy with BYU wrappers--why didn't we think of that!!! Chris's mom was in town, so she wore her BYU shirt too!! So anyways, if any of you want to experience football hysteria, just make your way to the south!!

I found that the best time to go to Wal-Mart or run errands is during an Alabama football game. It is a ghost town during the Alabama-Auburn game!
